My God, My God, Why Have You Abandoned Me?

Have you ever felt utterly alone, even forsaken by God?

Psalm 22:8-9, 17-18, 19-20, 23-24 expresses this deep cry of despair. The Psalmist feels surrounded by enemies, mocked in his suffering, and pleads with God for help. Yet, even in the depths of his pain, a flicker of faith remains. He remembers God’s past deliverance and calls on Him again. The Psalm ends with a shift towards hope, with a promise to praise God and a plea for rescue.

This Psalm is a powerful reminder that it’s okay to bring our honest cries of doubt and pain to God. He can handle our deepest emotions, and even when we feel distant, He is always there.

Remember that God hears our cries, even when we feel abandoned.

Ask Yourself

Have there been moments when I felt abandoned by God? How did I navigate those feelings?

Let Us Pray

Loving God, in our deepest pain, grant us the courage to cry out to You. Help us trust that You are present, even when darkness surrounds us. Amen.
